ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING PROGRAMMES

The primary entry qualification into the programme is the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), GCE O’Level, or an equivalent qualification. Candidates must meet all University entry requirements and obtain credit-level passes in at least five (5) subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, Physics, and Chemistry, all in not more than two sittings.

(A) ADMISSION INTO LEVEL 100

To be admitted into Level 100, candidates must, in addition to the O’Level requirements stated above, obtain an acceptable score in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in the relevant subjects, namely Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English Language.

(B) ADMISSION INTO LEVEL 200 (DIRECT ENTRY)

Candidates seeking direct entry admission into Level 200 must satisfy the general O’Level requirements and meet one of the following conditions:

  1. Possess at least three (3) GCE ‘A’ Level passes in subjects, which must include Physics and Mathematics, and may include Chemistry.
  2. Hold a National Diploma (ND) in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of Upper Credit, in addition to:

(i) Relevant O’Level credits; or

(ii) Grade A in WAEC Technical or City and Guilds.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

 

(A)  POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA (PGD) IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related field OR
  • HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with at least Lower Credit
  • Must satisfy BUK Postgraduate School general requirements

(B)  MASTER OF ENGINEERING (M.ENG.) IN POWER ENGINEERING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with minimum Second Class Lower
  • Third Class degree holders may be considered with a relevant PGD (minimum Credit)
  • Must meet general BUK postgraduate entry requirements

(C)  DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PH.D.) IN POWER ENGINEERING

  • M.Eng./M.Sc. in Power Engineering or related field with minimum CGPA of 3.50/5.00
  • Must submit an acceptable research proposal
  • May be required to pass an interview/departmental screening
